NECO Syllabus 2026/2027 For All Subjects

The NECO Syllabus 2026/2027 for All Subjects covers core subjects (English, math, and civic education) and electives in science, arts, and business, with a full transition to Computer-Based Testing (CBT) expected by 2026. Key subjects focus on foundational topics, including comprehension/composition in English, calculus/algebra in math, and practical, data-driven topics in sciences like computer studies.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) conducts the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) for internal and external candidates in Nigeria. It also administers the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE).

NECO SSCE is taken by students who have completed senior secondary school and is a key requirement for admission into tertiary institutions. The BECE is written at the end of junior secondary school, while the NCEE is taken by pupils in their final year of primary education. NECO also provides an online result verification system for SSCE, BECE, and NCEE using purchased tokens.

Brief History

NECO was established in 1999 by General Abdulsalami Abubakar to meet growing examination needs and provide more affordable registration fees. It took over from the National Board for Educational Measurement (NBEM), formed in 1992, and conducted its first examination in 2000. Its creation helped address the rising number of SSCE candidates previously handled solely by WAEC.
